Bunch o’ stuff comin’ up in the next two weekends for the free heel faithful (including those w/training heels 😉 ).
3rd Annual Tahoe Backcountry Festival
Third annual? This is the first I’ve ever heard of this one. After looking at the write up in the Tahoe Daily Tribune it all becomes clear. It used to be a splitboard festival. This year the festivities are truncated and what remains is a good, low budget fundraiser for the Sierra Avalanche Center in South Lake Tahoe. Sans skiing or skinning it will still be a good chance to meet other local backcountry skiers/riders in the South Lake Tahoe area and polish up your avalanche awareness.
Friday March 16th, 5-10pm at the American Legion building located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. More details here.
38th Annual NATO Telemark Festival
The longest running Telemark Festival in the world gathers again next weekend, March 8th & 9th at Mad River Glen in Vermont. This will be the 38th time Dickie Hall, America’s telemark messiah, will host the event put on by the North American Telemark Organization. As advertised, it’s the “mother of all telemark festivals.” Be there if you can.
Details and registration to attend here.
Wasatch Powder Keg
The 11th Annual Wasatch Powder Keg returns as a Triple Crown, 3-day event this year, sponsored by Voile Equipment and hosted at Brighton ski resort in Utah’s Wasatch range. On Friday, March 8th there will be a sprint style race. Saturday, March 9th will see the classic Powder Keg randonnée race and Sunday will be the Technical Teams Race.
Details and registration here.
MAS Adventure Ski Race
On the west coast Mt. Adventure Seminars is putting their annual Bear Valley Telefest on hold until next year. Instead, this year MAS will be hosting their 2nd annual randonnée race at Bear Valley this Saturday, March 2nd (er, delay that too – until April 6th). There will be the standard race and recreation categories for alpine, tele, and splitboard.
Details and registration here.
Know of another festival or race going on soon? Post it in the comments below and I’ll add ‘er in up here too.
