Alpenglow Sports sponsors TBVC again!

Register to help support SAC.

Alpenglow Sports in Tahoe City is sponsoring the Tahoe Vertical Challenge again this year, and hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm. Last year there was limited participation from backcountry skiers, largely due to a lack of snow for racking up the vert. Winter has already left her calling card for this season and Alpenglow is raring to make good on their promise to help support the Sierra Avalanche Center this season.

Here’s how it works. If you’re a backcountry skier and earning your turns, be sure to log your vertical at the Tahoe Vertical Challenge website. When (last year it was an IF) 15-million vertical feet are reached Alpenglow will donate $3,000.00 to the Sierra Avalanche Center.

Register at the Tahoe Backcountry Vertical Challenge website and then be sure to enter the vertical you earned in the backcountry every time you make a tour. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a short lunch run, a one-lap dawn patrol, or a full day of setting a new personal record. Add the turns you earned to the community total and help support our local avalanche forecasting center, the Sierra Avalanche Center.

The challenge begins November 15th, 2012, and ends April 30th, 2013. All you have to do is register and enter where and how much you climbed. You don’t need to give away your secrets, just share how far you went. Prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women, and everyone who registers and logs at least one tour will be entered to win bi-monthly raffle prizes from brands like Dynafit, Black Diamond, Scarpa, G3, Marmot, Suunto, Smith Optics, and Clif Bar.

Update:
Just a quick note. Even though the goal of reaching 15-million vertical feet was not met last year, Alpenglow still donated $3000 to the Sierra Avalanche Center AND participation in the challenge grew by 300%. All that in a poor snow year. This year, we rock it!
